Although this is an area not often visited by the traveller, there is much to see and do inland from Cañete. Less than an hour inland is the town of Lunahuaná, a pretty place popular with Limeños getting away from the city. White water rafting is practised here, and there are many wine bodegas that can be visited. From Lunahuaná the road continues towards Huancayo. On this road is the beautiful, and seldom-visited, Yauyos area. This region, full of lakes and waterfalls, offers some good hiking, and also the chance to see some authentic Andean villages.
