Air connections
Tarapoto has an airport with daily flights to Lima. There are also flights to Iquitos, Pucallpa and Yurimaguas. The airport is a couple of kilometres from the centre, and a mototaxi will charge $1.
Bus connections
Most buses leave from the Marginal Sur, opposite Fonavi. Take a mototaxi from the centre, which will cost $0.50.
Moyobamba and Chiclayo
Several bus companies operate services to Chiclayo, 18 hours from Tarapoto. Buses pass through Moyobamba, 5 hours from Tarapoto. Buses cost $3 to Moyobamba and $10 to Chiclayo. Many companies have buses that go on to Lima, 24 hours from Tarapoto, costing around $20. Turismo Tarapoto has a bus at 1pm, Transporte Guadalupe has buses at 1pm and 9.30pm and Sol Peruano has buses at 1pm and 11.30pm.
Colectivos for Moyobamba leave from near the bus offices when full. These take 3 hours and charge $6.
Yurimaguas
Paredes Estrella has a bus to Yurimaguas at 8am, taking 5 hours, for $3. Transportes Huamanga has a bus at 11am, taking 5 hours, for $4. Apart from buses leaving from the Marginal Sur, there are minibuses from the Mercado Zonal Banda de Shilcayo. These charge considerably more, but leave throughout the day.
Juanjuí
Paredes Estrella has a bus to Juanjuí at 8am, taking 5 hours, for $3. Transportes Huamanga has a bus at 10.30am, taking 5 hours, for $4.
