Air connections
Sometimes, there are a couple of commercial flights per week from Lima to Chachapoyas in the high season, generally from June to September. There are also flights with the military carrier Grupo 8 throughout the year, although these are sporadic.
Bus connections
The road to Chachapoyas is very dangerous during the rainy season, and accidents are not infrequent in these months. It is strongly recommended that the journey be undertaken only in the dry season. Journeys to attractions near Chachapoyas are on rough, unpaved roads, in small combis, which are often very crowded.
Chiclayo
Chiclayo is 10 hours from Chachapoyas, with tickets costing $6-$7. Most buses go at night, but the day bus is strongly recommended, as the route is spectacular. Trans Service Kuélap (Ortiz Arrieta 412, 778128) has a bus at 6pm. Civa (Libertad 812) has buses at 4.30pm daily, and buses at 10am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Movil Tour (Av. Libertad block 10, T 778545) has a daily bus at 1pm. Transcarh (Libertad 690) has buses at 10am.
Celendín
Transportes Virgen del Carmen (Jr. Salamanca) has buses to Celendín on Sundays at 8am and on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7.30am. The journey takes 12 to 15 hours and costs $7.
Pedro Ruíz
Colectivos to Pedro Ruíz leave from Jr. Grau 355. The journey takes 1½ hours and costs $2.50.
Mendoza
Transportes Zelada (Jr. Ortiz Arrieta 310, T 778066) has buses at 10.30am and 5pm. The journey takes 5 hours and costs $3.50. Buses from Mendoza to Chachapoyas leave at 2am and 10.30am.
Leymebamba
Combis for Leymebamba leave at 1pm from next to the Transcarh office at Libertad 690. These take 3 hours and cost $2. It is also possible to take the bus going to Celendín as far as Leymebamba. Return combis from Leymebamba to Chachapoyas leave at 3am.
Kuélap
Transporte Roller-Kuélap Express (Jr. Grau 300) has a minibus service to Kuélap at 4am. The journey takes 3 hours and costs $3.50. Alternatively, catch a combi to Tingo, 1½ hours from Chachapoyas, from where it is a 4-hour walk to the ruins.

Combis for Lamud leave from Jr. Ortiz Arrieta 364 throughout the day. The journey takes 1 hour and costs $1.50.
Transporte Roller-Kuélap Express has minibuses to Colcamarca at 10am, taking 1½ hours, for $1.50.
