The post office is on San Martín.
Consulates
The Ecuadorian consulate is at Simón Bolívar 129 (T521739) on the Plaza de Armas. It is open Monday to Friday from 9am-1pm and 4pm-6pm.
Crime and safety
The police station is on Av. Tumbes Norte (T522800) some way from the centre. Take a taxi.
Health
The hospital is on Av. Tumbes Norte, away from the centre.
Local transport
Buses and combis
There are good combi connections to towns around Tumbes.
Combis to Aguas Verdes leave from the corner of Av. Tumbes Norte and Abad Puell and cost $0.50.
Combis to Puerto Pizarro leave from the corner of Francisco Navarette and Piura and cost $0.50.
Combis to Zorritos and Caleta La Cruz leave from the Mercado Modelo on Mariscal Castilla.
Taxis
Taxis charge $0.50 for journeys within the city. Mototaxis half of this.
Money
Banks
Banco Continental (Visa cash machine) is on Paseo Libertadores next to the Plaza.
Banco de Crédito (Visa cash machine) is on Paseo Libertadores next to the Plaza.
NBK Bank (Visa cash machine) is on the Plaza Mayor.
Moneychangers
There are plenty of moneychangers on Paseo Libertadores next to the Banco de Crédito.
Shopping
The Mercado Modelo, selling food, is at the corner of Mariscal Castilla and Piura.
Travel services
Tourist information
There is a helpful tourist information office on the second floor of the Municipal building on the Plaza de Armas. This is open Monday to Friday, 7.30am-1pm, and 3pm-7pm. There is also a tourist information office at the border at Aguas Verdes, near the Puente Internacional, which is also open daily from 9am to 4pm.
Travel agencies
There is a travel agency next to the Hotel Roma, just off the Plaza. This will organise trips to the mangrove swamps, although it is easier to do this from Puerto Pizarro.
