Peru Guide : The North Coast > Máncora

The best beaches in Peru are found near Máncora, and the town in a popular destination for wealthy Limeños. There are some comfortable hotels on the seafront as well as many luxury homes. The town has a very laid-back atmosphere and it makes a good stopping off point for those heading to or from Ecuador. However, the beaches do not compare to those of the Caribbean, or even the Pacific further to the north. The town itself is also rather unattractive, spread out along the Pan-American Highway. Máncora has many mosquitoes so take lots of repellent. The weather is hot and sunny all year, although from December to April it can be very hot and it rains.

Máncora is a small village, with all facilities stretched along the Pan-American Highway. Las Pocitas, just south of Máncora, is quieter, but has better hotels and a calmer beach.
