Air connections
There are several flights a day from Trujillo to Lima with Aerocontinente (Av. España 307, T 244042). The airport is on the road to Huanchaco, past Chan Chán. A taxi to the airport charges about $3.
Bus connections
Trujillo has good bus connections up and down the coast, as well as inland to Cajamarca and Huamachuco. There is no main bus station, although there is a bus station for small companies for routes to the north at Nicolás de Piérola 1221 and a bus station for small companies for routes to the south at Av. La Marina 501.
Lima
There are plenty of direct services to Lima, most of which travel at night, taking 7 to 8 hours. Several companies have bus-cama and semi-cama services, which cost about $14 and $8 respectively. Basic services cost about $7. Good companies include Flores (Av. Ejercito 456, T208250) which has a semi-cama service at 10.30pm, Oltursa (Av. Ejercito 342, T263055) which has a bus-cama service at 10pm, CIAL (Amazonas 395, T201760) which has a regular service at 10.30pm, Civa (Av. Ejercito 285, T251402) which has a semi-cama service and a bus-cama service at 10.30pm and Ormeño (called Expreso Continental) (Av. Ejercito cuadra 2, T259782) which has a regular service at 10pm, a semi-cama service at 10-30pm and a bus-cama service at 11pm.
Chiclayo and north of Trujillo
Ormeño (called Expreso Continental) (Av. Ejercito cuadra 2, T259782) has a 7pm service to Piura (6 hours, $6) and Tumbes (11 hours, $7). Otherwise, take a bus from the northern terminal. From here, there are plenty of buses to Chiclayo, a four-hour journey.
The south
If not going to Lima, it is best to head to the bus station for the south on Av. La Marina. Here, many smaller companies have buses heading on the Pan-American Highway leaving every few minutes.
Huaraz
Buses leave from Ovalo Larco. Movil Tours, on Ovalo Larco, has a daily service to Huaraz.
Cajamarca
There are several companies offering services to Cajamarca, which is about 6 hours on a completely paved road. Fares are around $5. The best company is probably Turismo Días at Av. Nicolás de Piérola 1079, 2 blocks past the Museo Cassinelli. It has buses at 1pm, 6pm, 10pm and 10.45pm. Transportes Horna, next to Turismo Días, has buses at 12pm and 10pm. There are a few other companies, all near by.
Huamachuco
Most companies to Huamachuco have offices on Prolongación Vallejos. The journey should take about 7 hours, although during and just after the wet season the unpaved road can be in terrible condition and can take anything up to 12 hours. Tickets cost about $6. The best company is Transportes Sánchez López (Prolong. Vallejos 1390) which has buses at 9am and 9pm. Gran Turismo (Prolong. Vallejos 1368) has buses at 12.45pm and 7pm. Turismo Negreiro (Prolong. Vallejos 1335) has a bus at 8pm.
