The main attraction in the Pucallpa area is Yarinacocha, a large ox-bow lake only 10 minutes from the centre of the city. The name Yarinacocha is used to refer to both the lake and the town, although the part of town closest to the lake is called Puerto Callao. The lake was part of the River Ucayali until the end of the 19th century.
