Peru Guide : The Jungle > The border with Brazil and Colombia

500km downriver of Iquitos is the tri-border, where Brazil, Colombia and Peru share a border. It is possible to travel from Iquitos to both Brazil and Colombia, and continue from there into either of these countries. Once in Brazil, there are plenty of passenger services down the Amazon to Manaus, a journey that takes around one week from the border. The largest city on the border is Leticia in Colombia, from where it is possible to fly to other destinations in Colombia.

There are several classes of boat from Iquitos to the border. Before crossing the border, make sure you get exit stamps from Peruvian immigrations in Santa Rosa, and entry stamps when entering Brazil or Colombia. Boats crossing the border should stop and give you time to sort out your paperwork, but make sure beforehand.
