Peru Guide : The Central Highlands > Tingo María

The road from Huánuco descends into beautiful high jungle before arriving in Tingo María, 120km away on a good paved road. The town is small and rather ugly, although there is a pleasant promenade along Alameda Peru in the centre, and the surrounding hills are beautiful. These include the Bella Durmiente (the sleeping beauty), several hills which form the shape of a young woman, asleep. The town is at 660m above sea level and has a very hot and humid climate.

Av. Raymondi is the main commercial street. The Plaza de Armas is in the middle of Alameda Peru, a pleasant boulevard.
