Lima
The journey to Lima takes around 8 hours on direct buses on a good, paved road. Cruz del Sur (28 de Julio 341) has a good Cruzero service at 10pm costing $13 for bus-cama and $8 for semi-cama. G&M Internacional (Jr. 28 de Julio 535) has a good service with a toilet onboard at 9am for $7 and at 10pm for $8. It also has semi-cama service on both these buses for $10. Etposa (Jr. Hermillo Valdizán 773) has a bus-cama service at 10pm for $13 and a semi-cama service at 10pm for $8. It also has more basic services at 8pm and 9pm for $7. Transportes Jara (Jr. Abtao 794) has a basic service at 7.45pm for $5.
Huancayo
Turimso Central (Jr. Tarapacá 552) has a service at 9.30pm for $5, taking around 7 hours.
Cerro de Pasco/La Oroya
Colectivos to Cerro de Pasco take 2 hours and cost $4. Combis to La Oroya are less frequent and take 3½ hours and cost $8. They leave from the Control at Acahauyna. Take a taxi from the centre.
Tingo María/Pucallpa
There are plenty of buses that go to Tingo María, taking around 3 hours and charging $2. Many of these go on to Pucallpa, a further 8 hours away, charging $6 for the 11-hour journey. The journey to Pucallpa should be travelled by day, as attacks on buses are not unknown. Transportes Leoncido Prado (Hermillo Valdizán 235) has a bus at 8am, Transportes Transamazónica (Hermillo Valdizán 260) has a bus at 4.30am, Turismo Las Brisas (Hermillo Valdizán 246) has a bus at 7.45am. Turismo Central (Jr. Tarapacá 552) has a service at 9.30pm.
The quickest way to get to Tingo María is to take a colectivo. These take 2 hours and cost $3.50.There are several places these leave from, although the most convenient is near the bridge on General Prado.
Lagunas Pichgacocha
Combis to La Libertad, close to the lakes, leave from the corner of Jr. Aguila and Jr. Huallayco.
La Unión
The journey to La Unión takes 5 hours and costs $3.50. Turismo Unión (Jr. Tarapacá 449) has a bus to La Unión at 7.30am. Transportes Vitor (Tarapacá 448) has a bus at 7.30am. Transportes Chasqui (Tarapacá 403) has a bus at 7.45am. From La Unión it is possible to carry on to Huaraz. Transportes Yungay has a bus from La Unión to Huaraz at 4am, taking 5 hours.
Tantamayo
The journey to Tantamayo takes 7 hours and costs $5. Turismo Unión (Jr. Tarapacá 449) has a bus to Tantamayo at 7.15am. Transportes Chasqui (Tarapacá 403) has a bus at 7.30am.
To visit many of the ruins around Huánuco requires staying in small villages several hours from Huánuco. It is safe to visit these villages, although only travel by day, as buses have been known to be assaulted at night.
