There are many traditional dishes from Huancayo, including Papa a la Huancaína, potato covered in a mild cheese and peanut sauce. Pachamanca, meat and vegetables cooked under hot stones in the earth, also originated here, and there are many good places to eat this. A good place to try traditional food is in the Parque de la Identidad in the city, where there are a number of food stalls. Take a taxi from the centre for $0.50.
