There is a helpful tourist information booth at the entrance to the Casa del Artesano on the Plaza de la Constitución. Many hotels and agencies sell a travel guide to the Junín department (including Huancayo, Tarma, Chanchamayo, Satipo and Junín) for $4, which contains good information on the whole area.
Travel agencies
There are plenty of travel agencies around the Plaza offering basic tours of the Mantaro Valley. Incas del Peru, run by Lucho Hurtado, is helpful with information, and offers different tours, in addition to trips in the Valley.
