The city of Huancayo is a bustling commercial centre with not much of interest in the city itself. Calle Real, the main street in Huancayo, was originally part of the Inca Trail between Cusco and Cajamarca, and the city was founded by the Spanish in 1572. However, virtually nothing remains of the city?s colonial past and most of the buildings are modern and rather unattractive. However, the city makes a good base for visiting the Mantaro Valley, and it has good commercial services.
