Travel services

Tourist information

There is a bright, helpful tourist office on the Plaza de Armas with good information on the city. Aesha, the association of hotels, at Jr. Callao 290, gives good information on hotels in Ayacucho, as well as general tourist information.

Travel agencies

There are several travel agencies on the Plaza de Armas offering trips to Wari and Vilcashuamán. Wari Tours is one of the best. Trips to Vilcashuamán are less frequent as a minimum of eight people is required, so outside of July and August they often taking place only at weekends. Trips to Wari, Quinua and Huanta cost around $8 per person, and trips to Vilcashuamán cost about $13.

For adventure tourism, Pierre Verbist (verbist@terra.com.pe) is excellent. He organises mountain biking, horse riding, motorbike trips and jeep trips in the area and is very knowledgeable. He can be contacted at the Warpa Picchu complex outside of the city. Contact him in advance to give him time to organise trips.

Private guides

Carlos Manco, at the Hotel Crillonesa, is very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Although he might not be able to guide you himself, he can put you in touch with other guides.
