Crime and safety
Machu Picchu is a safe town, largely as it is very difficult for a troublemaker to leave in a hurry if he has problems. However, it is best to be careful, especially on the railway line away from the town after dark.

There are no banks, although there are plenty of places that will change dollars at rates significantly lower than in Cusco.
