June The whole month of June leading up to Inti Raymi is full of parades and festivals in the centre of Cusco. There are many lively dances and celebrations by inhabitants from the surrounding towns and villages.
June Festival de la Cerveza
For a couple of days in June, Cusco is host to a large pock/rock festival, with good concerts by national and Latin American musicians. This is aimed at the local market, and few travellers go. However, the atmosphere is very lively and the music is usually good. Details can be found on posters all over town.
June Corpus Christi, with many parades in Cusco.
June 24 Inti Raymi

Possibly the most famous festival in all of Peru, Inti Raymi is the Inca celebration of the winter solstice. The festival was discontinued by the Spanish, but was reintroduced in the mid 20 th century to celebrate the city's Inca heritage, with locals portraying the Inca noblemen. Unfortunately, it has now become somewhat commercialised, performed largely for wealthy tourists who can afford the expensive entrance fee. It is still possible to see the festival for free, although this requires getting to the hill opposite Sacsayhuaman very early. It is no longer possible to sit on the stones of Sacsayhuaman to see the ceremony.

The celebrations begin around 9am in the park in front of Qorikancha, and then proceed to the Plaza de Armas, where there is another brief ceremony around noon . The main ceremony is held at Sacsayhuaman around 2pm , lasting until around 4pm. This involves music and dancing, as well as the sacrifice of a llama.
